Ottawa has an excellent selection of street crazies and other weirdos that make living in the city entertaining. Doctor Mask (who drives around on a scooter and bike pulling a giant dog and making unearthly whistling sounds) is the It Boy of the scene right now, but there's also the guy who keeps at least 300 pieces of paper in his breast pocket and hangs out at McDonald's on Elgin. There was the guy who hung out in the market a few years ago wearing a suit made entirely out of zippers. He was awesome. There's the guy who plays slide guitar with a glass on the stump of his amputated arm, and the lady with the mask and way too much makeup. They're all excellent folks, but for as far as I'm concerned nobody can touch Harold C. Funk.
He's a weird older guy who writes up letters to the heads of all world nations every week and puts them EVERYWHERE. You can find him out front of the Rideau Centre, or by the the bus terminals on Metcalfe St. handing out his letters. Well this one, which I pulled off of a car windshield out front of my house, is the absolute best he's ever come up with. It's sort of tough to read, with it all in caps like usual, but well worth it, believe me.
Enjoy.
