The United Empire Loyalist Orchestra - O CANADA
Sometime in the summer of 2002 the realization of the great dream of a great many people materialized in the form of the United Empire Loyalist Orchestra's performance of the epic "Requiem for Cameron Neely" a 24 hour exploration of the note D (waters which have still not been fully charted....). The performance was such a hit, so greatly received by the public, that the Orchestra could not help but follow it up in short succession with another chart topping, ear drum destroying hit.

And so Orchestra members were pressed back into service for the equally epic "O Canada". The plan was to do an extremely slow rendition of our beloved national anthem, and so the song was stretched such that its duration would be three hours, rather than the customary minute and a half or so. To give an impression of the scale, the very first "O" lasts six minutes and twelve seconds. Quite lengthy, indeed. Concurrently, the Orchestra's projectionist displayed films documenting Canada's past, and guests enjoyed the usual free snacks and charming conversation (albeit from a suitable distance, typically across the street).

The item for sale here, then, is a three disc set documenting the performance in its entirety. It is very difficult to listen to, but very enjoyable at the same time, and comes highly recommended.

Visit the first unofficial UELO website for pictures, samples, and other good stuff - maintained by Head of Logistics (Limestone Counties) Brandon Fodden.

Visit the second unofficial UELO website for more stuff, including a compressed version of "O Canada" - maintained by Champion of Post Production (and envoy to Sweden) David McCallum. Mr. McCallum is spreading the UELO's principles to Scandanavia, his website merits investigation.

"O Canada" like all UELO performances, was held at Ottawa's best and friendliest gallery, Gallery 101.

The band if then do are also friends of the Orchestra and participated in the "Requiem for Cameron Neely".

This item can be purchased through this website, and the mail.
